Sidonie Smith is Mary Fair Croushore Professor of the Humanities and Director of the Institute for the Humanities at the University of Michigan. She is also a past-President of the Modern Language Association of America (2010). Her fields of interest include human rights and personal narrative, autobiography studies, women’s studies in literature more generally, feminist theory, and postcolonial literatures. Her most recent books include the second, expanded edition of Reading Autobiography: A Guide for Interpreting Life Narratives (with Julia Watson, University of Minnesota, 2010); and Human Rights and Narrated Lives: The Ethics of Recognition (with Kay Schaffer, Palgrave Macmillan, 2004). She is also the author of numerous articles.
