Anthony Dawson is professor emeritus of English at the University of British Columbia. His interests include theatre history, performance studies, editorial theory and practice, and historical criticism, with particular reference to Shakespeare and his contemporaries. He has written extensively on religion and theatre in the early modern period. His concern with religion has led to a new project focusing on the Jesuit missionaries who came to New France and their dedication to forms of conversion, both religious and more broadly cultural.
