George Hoffmann (University of Michigan) began working in the history of the book (Montaigne’s Career, 1998) before turning to social and religious history. His recent work includes a book submission, Alone unto Their Distance: French Reformers, Satire, and the Creation of Religious Foreignness, an essay on an overlooked point of Reformation theology (“communication” with the Eucharist) called “From Communion to Communication: The Creation of a Reformation Public” and a piece on Foucault, humanists, and Asad, “An Ethics for Anti-Humanism? Belief and Practice.”
