Anastasi Stylianou completed a BA in History (2009-12) and a Post-Graduate Certificate in Education (2012-13), both at Oxford University, before undertaking an ESRC-funded PhD at the University of Warwick (2013-17). Her research examines the roles a rhetoric of martyrs’ blood plays in early-modern English martyrological writings and confessional polemic, c. 1485-1625. She focuses particularly on examining consistencies and divergences between confessional constructions of martyrdom, sanctity, and the body. The areas she investigates include: the supernatural; polemic rhetoric; confessional identity and conflict; apocalypticism; understandings of time. She is supervised by Professors Peter Marshall and Rebecca Earle.
