Klea Hawkins is a Master’s student in the department of Art History and Communication Studies at McGill University. Under the supervision of Dr. Angela Vanhaelen, Klea is researching the relationship between seventeenth-century Dutch art theory and the Catholic religious imagery produced by the Utrecht Caravaggisti. She is specifically interested in the ways these Dutch Caravaggesque artists address notions of mimesis in their works in order to inspire affective religious responses within the beholder thereby helping to formulate notions of a specific Dutch Catholic identity.
