Tomasz Grusiecki is a PhD Candidate in Art History at McGill University working under the supervision of Professor Angela Vanhaelen. His broad area of research is the sixteenth- and seventeenth-century visual culture of central Europe (particularly Poland-Lithuania, and the Holy Roman Empire—including Bohemia) in its pan-European, trans-cultural and global ramifications. In his dissertation, entitled ‘Globalising the Periphery: Poland-Lithuania and its Cross-Cultural Interactions with the World, 1587-1668’, Tomasz traces a number of trans-territorial mediations of forms, ideas and practices, which are at odds with the prevalent nation-centric framework for discussing artefacts.
