Zoey M. Cochran is currently a doctoral student in musicology at McGill University. Her doctoral research focuses on representations of Ancient Rome and the myth of Venice in Italian opera. Having written her master’s thesis on the role of Tuscan in eighteenth-century Neapolitan comic opera, she is also interested in the relation between the history of the Italian language and the development of opera in Italy. Her study of Italian language history has led her to pursue a career in Italian lyric diction, which she teaches at the Atelier lyrique of the Opéra de Montréal as well as in various summer programs.
