Carla Zecher is Executive Director of The Renaissance Society of America. She specializes in French literary writing about music, and French travel writing, from the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. She is the author of Sounding Objects: Musical Instruments, Poetry, and Art in Renaissance France (2007), and a co-editor of Dumont de Montigny, Regards sur le monde atlantique, 1715-1747 (2008) and The Memoir of Lieutenant Dumont, 1715-1747: A Sojourner in the French Atlantic (2012). In 2011-12 she held an NEH fellowship at the Huntington Library. She is writing a book tentatively titled “Music in the Saddlebag: Tales of Music and Travel in the Renaissance and Beyond.”
